Wiggy Kit first hit my radar two years ago when I spotted some of the collection in local boutique, Katie & Jo. I was instantly drawn-in by the fresh fabrics and flattering cut, so I snapped up a classic St Germain shirt which has been my go-to holiday staple ever since.
Loving the resort-wear style, I started to follow the label on Instagram, and discovered a look which is on-trend whether at a beach BBQ in Jersey, cocktails in Cannes, or sipping sundowners at Sugar Beach!
Today, I spotted a super-stylish lady on the King’s Road sashaying down the street in the Chambray Drawstring Dress. Needless to say, she looked a knock out.
The eponymous Wiggy Hindmarch is the perfect advert for her brand: effortlessly cool, chic and fun at the same time.
It has been my absolute pleasure to interview Wiggy for the blog, and I’m delighted to introduce you to her wonderful creations.
Have you always been interested in fashion?
Since day dot! I was born in Singapore and my mother has numerous photos of me as a one year old wearing her 1970’s wedge sandals, lipstick and handbag slung on my arm and little else.
What was the inspiration behind your latest collection?
The same as always: Slim Aarons meets the Hamptons, meets 1960’s St Tropez or Amalfi Coast meets Scandinavian coastal chic!
If you could only wear one piece from your collection what would it be and why?
The Drawstring Dress in the maxi or short – I literally live in them.
Is there anyone that you would love to see wearing your designs?
However flattering it is to see someone in the public eye wearing my clothes, what gives me most pleasure and reward is seeing it worn out and about everyday on normal women, just like me.
What is the biggest style mistake you have made?
Wearing Mephistos and accidentally having a mullet.
What is your favorite holiday destination and why?
The obvious answer would be Harbour Island as I have a house there, but having lived on the East Coast of America for a number of years, a luxe road trip through America stopping off at all the best places in New England, the Deep South, the mountainous mid west and the stunning west coast up to the wine regions would not go amiss. I would have to take a pit stop at The Amangiri Utah on my way.
Is there another designer that you particularly admire?
Having my own label means I spend the majority of my time wearing my own pieces but am always looking for accessories, mainly shoes, to compliment my line. Aquazzurra and Leoffler Randall are my go-to designers. I adore Maryisa Swimwear and my sister in law Anya Hindmarch for bags and coats and the coolest sneakers.
What inspired you to launch your own brand?
Not being able to find what I wanted. My background has always been fashion and I always knew I wanted to start my own brand. I did not find anyone who was making the look that I was after and was quite fed up with the fact I had a whole slew of summer clothes that could only be worn on the beach but could not translate to life in London. It was all too short, too see-through and just looked ridiculous when I was back home. I didn’t see why on earth nobody had created clothing that would work everywhere and that could be worn other dressed up or dressed down. It’s made my life a whole lot easier and it appears there were millions of other women like me out there.
What can we expect from Wiggy Kit over the next 12 months?
More rompers…women love them! Husbands love them even more!
Note from MummyB: My personal favorite is the maxi drawstring and which I will be investing in the summer and pairing with a simple Ancient Greek sandal but it’s hard to just pick one item when I could easily live in the collection all Summer!
