A few weeks ago my sister and I had a rare day away from our children. Just before Baby O arrived into the world we felt we needed to have a little bit of pampering, so off we skipped to town feeling a little giddy at the prospect. We were heading to Charlotte Tilbury’s new Covent Garden outpost for a makeover in their divine boudoir.
Charlotte Tilbury is the make-up artist to the A-list, counting the likes of Alexa Chung, Kate Moss and Adele as clients. We were super excited to see what her team could do to transform our slightly tired, just-about-time-for-a-lick-of-mascara-and-a-splash-of-gloss look, in the hope that we would get the star treatment just in time for our friend’s Oscars themed party that night.
The store is stunning, all glitz and glamour. After a quick meet and greet we were taken down to the boudoir, a sumptuous art deco room of dreams where we were handed a glass of fizz and shown a menu of looks we could pick to recreate.
I’d settled in to the old Hollywood style backdrop quickly and opted to go all out glamour and picked “The Bombshell” for my look of the day, while Aunty H settled on the slightly more subtle “Uptown Girl”.
My delightful glam squad talked me through each stage of application, so I learned a few tricks of the trade while I reclined comfortably like a pampered princess. The one thing that struck me was how many products they use and how little make-up I use in comparison.
After around an hour our transformation was complete. Pampering sessions don’t get much better than that and the experience certainly trumped hanging out in a department store desperately trying to figure out what works for you.
The expectation is that you’ll buy the products you’ve sampled, but as I went for all out glamour (not a look I will be sporting on the nursery run), I decided to go for a selection of products all tailored to a more scaled-down day-to-night look for the time poor! I have to say I’m converted and have been delighted with all my cheeky purchases, it’s great to breathe a bit of fresh air into your make-up bag!
