When I kissed goodbye to the high heels and pencil skirts of office life and said hello to being a mummy, I slightly underestimated the style overhaul involved. Two pregnancies in four years and a body that has fluctuated from a pre-baby (just married) size 8 to a gigantic beautiful birthing goddess (that’s what I told myself) about to pop, it’s fair to say my wardrobe became fairly depleted.
Finding my mummy-mojo in the style stakes has not been easy – I’ve always favored a more dressed up look. Having been on a casual come down for the last year or so, I’ve finally found my fashion feet – but it’s by no means fashion forward! A tried and tested combo of jeans, flats, a top of some description – all spiced up with some, what I would call, luxe accessories.
I live in jeans these days, with Topshop my go-to brand. I personally think their “Jamie” jean fits like a mid rise J Brand. I also love J Brand’s Photo Ready jean for special, as they seem to tightly tuck away my Mummy bits. I am lusting over a pair of Photo Ready Super Skinny crop in Sea Green, which I’ve spotted in local Boutique, Katie & Jo.
My mummy ‘wheels’ are either a ballet pump or flat ankle boots. I’m loving Style Snob at the moment, as they seem super comfy and hard wearing for a pump. I have my eyes on the Sadie Ballerina in Neon Pink. I’ve lived in my Neon boots over the last few months. I know it’s not practical to buy boots going in to summer, but they’re one to remember for Autumn.
My go-to brands for tops are Des Petits Hauts, Maison Scotch, Chinti and Parker (for something a bit different) and Whistles, Maje, Sandro, Claudie Pierlot, Cos, J Crew, Reiss, Zara and Topshop when I’m hitting the high street. Yes, I am that crazy lady shopping with two children in tow when needs must! (A promise of a Fro-yo to end the trip is usually enough to precipitate good behavior from Big D.)
