It’s amazing what a bit of sunshine can do for the soul. When two weeks ago we got our first taste of summer, I got all excited and booked a holiday. As soon as I secured our flights my attention turned to my holiday wardrobe. Shopping for a bikini can easily ruin even the happiest of days, especially after having had two children – so careful consideration is needed to tackle the holiday wardrobe minefield – without feeling like you never want to set foot on a beach again.
I’ve picked out items that I’d love to put in my suitcase of dreams. Some of these I’ve treated myself to, others will have to wait for that lottery win. I also have the attitude that you can make a few investment purchases for holidays as items get such low wear that they can keep going for years. I have some beautiful kaftans that I bought for honeymoon six years ago and I still love rediscovering them every holiday.
If you’ve never tried on a Heidi Klein bikini, you’re letting the best things in life pass you by. They’re pricey, but L’Oreal worth it. I try and shop when there is a sale on, so it’s worth signing up to the mailing list. I try and look for bikinis on the high street each year but find the fashionable cuts don’t work for me any more. Feeling deflated and disappointed with myself I always end up in the Heidi Klein store off Sloane Square – which is when I know vacation’s just round the corner. When you open the door you’re hit with the coconut undertones of holiday in a New England back drop – and already I’m feeling better about myself and excited for some sunshine. Heidi does classic shapes and styles that flatter you and make you feel special. I treated myself to the yellow style, but in a coral colour.

I love to wear a hat on the beach for three reasons: (1) as a 30-something I now like to keep my face out of the sun, I’m all about preservation these days (2) I like to protect my hair colour, having gone back to my natural brown recently I try not to let the sun bleach it; and (3) stylish hats just look timeless & super-chic. They’re a bit of a pain to travel with, but once I arrive I never regret having my summer sombrero of choice.
I love this stunning fedora, a true head turner with fun message available from the Beach Cafe.
Eugeia Kim – Do Not Disturb Hat £360.00
It’s not just all about the bikini, in my case anything I can do to distract attention away from my body the better, so I love to focus on accessories – especially beach bracelets. I’m giving this Boho Betty bling some arm candy love (all available from Katie & Jo).
I can’t help smiling at my new Le Spec’s ‘No Smirking’ sunglasses. The round frame is on-trend. The style seems to suit square and round faces so perfect for me. Tortoiseshell is super-wearable on almost everyone and the silver tone lenses give them a little bit of fun. Priced at £40.00, they’re a great buy if you don’t want to spend the earth only for your prized possessions to be thrown on the floor by the little Loves in your life, available at Net-a-Porter.
Star Mela is a wonderful travel-inspired brand that came on to my radar last Summer. They do beautiful kaftans and sandals but I particularly love their beach bags.
Savanna EMB Bag, £89.00
I adore these luxury round towel designs on the Palm and Peach Instagram account. The one featured below is named after the beautiful Carribean island of Mustique (where Daddy B took me for honeymoon – love..!). Priced at £69.00, they’re a treat that will accompany you on many sandy adventures.
Less is definitely more on the beach and these handmade Ancient Greek Sandals are beautifully crafted using traditional methods used in Greece centuries ago. They have so many feminine designs it was so difficult to choose one to feature. The Medea would be my choice, 160.00 Euros is quite a lot for the beach – but the quality is there so they will age and weather over the years and end up looking even better with time.
Love love love Dodo Bar Or’s fresh bohemian style. This vacation-ready playsuit is to die for with it’s eye-catching geometric design, gold eyelets and fringed tassels. Waist ties to temper the loose relaxed fit. It’s so beautiful I’m not sure I would be able to take it off to get a tan, I could see myself wearing it around town long after the tan has faded.
Dodo Bar Or Tasseled Eyelet-Embellished Cotton-Gauze Playsuit, £240.00 Available at Net- a- Porter

New London label Wiggy Kit is a collection of sophisticated beachwear that will take you from strolling around the morning markets to the sandy beaches and on out to dinner. Beautifully cut pieces that will work as well with bare feet as it does with killer heel: who wants to waste precious vacation time going home and changing when you watch the sun go down?
The only bag to be toting this summer is the Rae & Feather clutch. You will be sure to be the envy of the beach when you casually appear with this season’s must have monogrammed masterpiece. You can personalise your bag with different coloured strips and add your initials to make it your own beautiful creation. Do bear in mind that orders can take up to two weeks, so get in on the trend well before take off.
All priced at £165.00
On that note, I’m leaving on a jet plane. Have a wonderful week and half term with you Littlies. Happy holidays if you are escaping to warmer climes and I’ll be back soon.
