The first things to start gathering dust after childbirth is your favorite handbag. Once the love of your life, now consigned to the back of the wardrobe – a trusty companion relegated to the sidelines. Replaced by a new arrival: the Nappy Bag.
Large, compartmentalised, convenient, practical and laden with wipes, ointments, lotions etc., this new friend thrusts its way into your life, part of your permanent wardrobe, and there it will remain for the next 3-5 years.
Fortunately, while the nappy bag should be practical, it does not have to be hideous – there are some great ones on the market and I’ve gathered my top picks out there today for any of you lovely soon-to-be Mummies or Mummies that just fancy an upgrade. Remember, you can never have enough bags!
1.Tory Burch – Needs no introduction, what a trio of delights! It’s hard to pick one from the fantastic selection Tory offers the discerning mother. All slick and practical in dark colours and wipe-clean materials.
Far Left – Black Travel Nylon Baby Bag £345.00
Middle – Blue Kerrington Square Tote Baby Bag £345.00
Quilted – Quilted Slouchy Baby Bag £345.00
2.Tiba + Marl – New to the market, this powerhouse duo of mothers know a thing about keeping parents on-trend. One was a senior bag buyer for Urban Outfitters and Topshop, the other a footwear and accessories designer for Kurt Geiger and Sigerson Morrison. They set out to design a range of cleverly designed, functional changing bags with an edge of cool.
Left – Raf Holdall £120.00
Right – Elwood Backpack £120.00 (Perfect for the bag shy Daddy)
It’s worth mentioning that they also have the Etta changing clutch (love a clutch) £35.00, for those like me nearly growing out of the nappy bag stage and looking to streamline their cargo! This is definitely going to be on my Christmas list.
3.Kate Spade – I have always thought that if Taylor Swift were a brand she would be Kate Spade. All American glamorous sophisticat and class with a bit of quirky fun thrown in for good measure. This nappy bag is the American Dream.
Classic Nylon Baby Bag £358.00
4.Anya Hindmarch – With a love for labels this well thought out tote is for me the ultimate changing bag. This was my chosen one and after a little affair with a Mulberry Rosie bag (no longer available online, but could possible still be sold in stores??), I came back with my tail between my legs! Now almost four years old and still looks like a shiny new pin, this family friend has seen me through my baby years. If it could talk, it could tell a few stories (but I’ll spare my little ones the embarrassment!).
Oakley Baby Bag £595.00 and worth every penny, just think of the price per wear!
5.Prada – Follow in the footsteps of Kourtney Kardashian and Jessica Alba. This A-list favorite is a little on the expensive side for Mummy B, but as Kourtney says YOLO!
There’s always a little room for glamour when changing nappies!
Love Mummy B
